Odoo 15 Manufacturing BOM

The Manufacturing module in Odoo 15 helps you to efficiently manage and oversee all manufacturing-related activities in your company. To make it more efficient, the module has a number of additional features and tools.

This article will walk you through how to use Odoo's Bill of Materials to manage product variants and semi-finished products.

The Manufacturing module's Bill of Materials feature allows you to specify and configure a new product that will be manufactured. Two of the most advanced functions in the Bill of Materials are product variant management and managing semi-finished or unfinished commodities or products. These properties can be useful at any point during the manufacturing process.

The Bill of Materials Menu in the Manufacturing module can be used to configure and use the feature. These options are simple to set up in the Odoo Manufacturing module's Bill of Materials.

Bill Of Materials

To improve the efficiency of your manufacturing sector, you must list each product that will be used to create a new end product. Odoo's Bill of Materials feature is relatively simple to set up. The Accounting module's Dashboard has a Bill of Materials option under the Product tab.

To access to the Bill of Materials section, click on the 'Bill of Materials' from the dropdown selections as noted in the image above.
You'll be able to see, manage, and adjust all of the Bill Materials you've prepared in this section. Click the CREATE button, as shown in the image above, to create a new Bill of Materials. When you click it, the configuration window will open, allowing you to create a new Bill of Materials as shown below.

If you already have a Bill of Materials and want to customize it, select it and edit it if the new configurations are for the Bill of Materials you already have.
You may either select a product from the drop-down menu or create one from scratch by selecting the 'Create and Edit' button as shown below.
When you click it, a configuration section for configuring the Product will appear, as seen below.
You can design and SAVE a product, and it will be automatically included to the Bill of Materials or available for you to include. Enter the Product's name, and if it's a product that can be sold, purchased, recurring, or rented, you can select from the alternatives based on the nature of the product you're creating.
To give the newly generated product a completed nature, the configuration section clicks on the Attributes and Variants from the product. As demonstrated below, you can add product variants and attributes to these sections from here.
The Attributes can be added here. A list of Attributes from previously developed items can be seen here. If the Attribute is new, type the name of the Attribute and click the Create and Edit button as shown above to make a new Attribute. A settings page for the Attribute will appear as shown below.
It's important to remember that assigning attributes to products is critical for effective product management. The Attributes that you have provided will be used to manage all of the items. Odoo can now recognize and segregate products, as well as product variants, from one another. This also makes it easier to maintain and distinguish products from a large number of options.
Giving goods Attributes can help them identify themselves better, and Attributes play a big part in Odoo at every level of product management, thus it's crucial to describe them. These Attributes are used in the website module to specify products that are displayed for sale, so that when a consumer searches for products based on Attributes, Odoo can efficiently display the products, boosting the likelihood of a sale.

By clicking the 'Add a line' button under the Attribute values, you may configure the Product Attributes and add the value. Odoo uses all of these attributes to determine the Product Varients. After you've configured the product versions, click the SAVE button to save the complete procedure. After that, the Product Configuration page will appear. Complete the options, then click the SAVE button to save the Product.

Product variants

After you've configured the product, you can add it to the Bill of Materials area. From the drop-down menu of options below, select the product.

Choose the product from the Products list as shown above. After you've added the Product, use the Product variant option to add the Product variant, as shown below.
You can either choose a product version from the Product variant menu or click the Create and modify option to create a new Product variant, as shown below.
As seen below, a configuration page with extensive Product variation management options will appear, allowing you to configure the product variant.
The Product variant form can be configured similarly to the product setup. On the Product, you can define the operations paths under inventory.
This allows you to manage your products more effectively in Odoo. After you've completed the configurations, you'll be able to add the product variant from the section. Creating a new product variant is an option, and Odoo will usually give you product variants to pick from in the Bill of Materials area if you have the necessary products left.
The Product variant field of the Bill of Material should be kept blank if you are specifying a product variant on a line-item basis, as the field is only used for single product variants. So, if you add a product to the Bill of Materials, the components may be added to the product to produce it, and if you've defined variants and their attributes, the variants will be displayed alongside the components for better product management.

Manage Semi-Finished products

Managing semi-finished items can be difficult since they are difficult to control and oversee in the usual sense. You can quickly manage and overview unfinished products with the Odoo manufacturing moduleand the BoM feature without any product clutter.
You can make a sub-assembly product in Odoo. A sub-assembly product is one that is made to be used as a component in the creation of another product. To set up the feature, go to the product and create a new product called Subassembly, as shown below.
Set the Routes to Replenish on Order and Manufacture in the Inventory section. Following that, if a production order for a top-level product is created, another one for subassembly items will be created as well. Following that, you'll discover the item in the Bill of Materials section. As previously noted, you can create a new product from the Bill of Materials area. As demonstrated below, you can add the product to the Bill of Materials section from the product area.
Following that, as seen below, you can add components to the Product.
As a result, the manufacture will be based on the availability of the components. You can set a component to trigger a purchase order if it runs out to ensure that the required component is available. To do so, go to the Components tab and choose the one you wish to apply the feature to, as shown below.
To configure the functionality, go to this page and click the external link button, which is marked in the screenshot above. As illustrated below, a new configuration will appear on the selected component.
Click the 'Purchase' tab and, as described above in the settings section, add the Vendor.
Go to the inventory to change the Routes of the Operations on the component after inputting the details on the 'Vendor.'
Choose Buy and Replenish as your order routes. After entering and customizing the appropriate parameters, click the SAVE button, and then do the same from the Bill of Materials.
To construct a Bill of Materials for the primary product, go to the Bill of Materials area and choose the main product, as shown below.
Select the main product and Subassembly as the component as highlighted in the screenshot given above. The selected main product necessitates the addition of new components. Then, as shown below, add operations from the operations section to specify the type of operation that the selected product must undergo.
You can either 'Add a line' or duplicate the operation from an existing Bill of Materials from this point. To add a new operation, click 'Add a line.' You can configure the Operation from the page that appears after this, as shown below.
Give the operation a name and a Work center. You can select to apply to variants as well if the Product has them. You can set a timer for the process, and if a worksheet is required, you can upload it as a PDF, Google Slide, or Text document and then click the SAVE & CLOSE button.
After that, you must create a production order in order to produce the product. To create a new manufacturing order, go to the Operations tab on the Odoo 15 manufacturing module's dashboard, click Manufacturing orders, and then the CREATE button. As illustrated below, a page with the configuration parameters for placing the production order will appear
You can see that the components are added together with the product when you add it to the product area. When you click the CONFIRM button, the following stage's configurations will appear, as seen below.
Note that if you are missing components, the page will display as Not Available in Red in the components section, as shown above. The procedure can be resumed once the relevant components have been received. It's worth noting that the subassembly must be completed before the main product can be completed. The component status on the subassembly may be viewed from the sections, and it will provide the projected completion date for the process on the components. Then, as seen below, click the MARK AS DONE option to move on to the final stage of the procedure.
By pressing the SAVE button, you will be able to access your order at any time and make any necessary changes. This is how you can use the multi-level-Bill of Material to handle semi-finished items.
