Manufacturing is the essential process of transforming raw materials into finished products within a company. It involves meticulous planning and execution to ensure efficient production and profitability. In today's competitive landscape, companies rely on streamlined manufacturing processes to maintain a competitive edge.

With Odoo 17, managing manufacturing becomes remarkably straightforward and efficient, whether handling simple or complex production tasks. At the core of Odoo's comprehensive business management suite lies its Manufacturing module. This module seamlessly integrates with other Odoo applications such as Inventory, ensuring real-time updates and accurate tracking of raw materials and finished goods.

Manufacturing in Odoo 17 simplifies the process of creating and managing manufacturing orders, guiding products through various stages of production until completion. Each company operates under unique production policies and workflows, and Odoo 17's Manufacturing module is designed with flexibility and customization in mind. This adaptability ensures it can accommodate diverse manufacturing methods and the specific requirements of different products.

Odoo 17's Manufacturing module allows for the addition of production components, as well as the ability to manage scrap and unbuild products when necessary. Integrated with Odoo's comprehensive suite, including Inventory, it ensures seamless updates and synchronization throughout the production cycle.

Let us start with creating manufacturing order "MO" , go to  Manufacturing -> Operations -> Manufacturing Orders -> Create.

To initiate manufacturing in Odoo 17, the process begins with selecting the product slated for production. Next, specify the quantity to be produced and optionally add a bill of materials if required. Set the planned production date and establish a deadline for completion. Under the components section, include the necessary raw materials outlined in the bill of materials. It's crucial to verify the availability of these raw materials before proceeding.

Once all details are filled in, production can commence by clicking on "Mark as to do." Odoo's inventory management system supports negative inventory, enabling production initiation even in the absence of raw material availability within the software. Simply click the "Produce" button to proceed.

Then the production is completed.

Additionally, users can easily monitor the manufacturing status of all orders.

After having done the production click on “Mark as done”,  Then the production is completed.

Manufacturing orders can also utilize advanced methods, especially in complex production scenarios that involve routing, bill of materials "BOM", work centers, and more.

To facilitate this process, it's essential to enable work orders in the manufacturing settings.

Navigate to Manufacturing -> Configuration -> Settings -> Work Orders to activate this feature.

After enabling work orders, the next step involves setting up work centers and routings.

A work center is the designated location where production activities take place. To create a work center, follow these steps:

  • Navigate to Manufacturing -> Master Data -> Work Centers -> Create.
  • Fill in the necessary details to define the work center, such as its name, type (e.g., work center, subcontracting, etc.), and operational details like capacity and efficiency.

Creating work centers ensures that production tasks are organized and managed efficiently within your manufacturing process.

Routes are essential paths that define the journey of each product through the production process. In manufacturing, where processes can be intricate and involve multiple work centers and stages, setting up proper routes is crucial.

To create a route for manufacturing, follow these steps:

  • Navigate to Manufacturing -> Master Data -> Routings -> Create.
  • Alternatively, you can also create routes directly from the settings menu by clicking on "Routes."

Defining routes ensures that each product follows the designated path through various stages and work centers, streamlining the manufacturing process effectively.

There's more to explore beyond these fundamental manufacturing module features! In our next blog, we'll delve deeper into the fascinating world of manufacturing with Odoo 17. Get ready to uncover the secrets of Bill of Materials (BOM), the art of managing scrap and unbuild processes, the dynamics of subcontracting, and insightful reporting tools that empower you to make data-driven decisions.
